Restore Strength, Function & Aesthetics

A damaged or weakened tooth doesn’t always need to be removed. At Face Studio Clinic, we provide high-quality dental crowns and ceramic onlays to restore the strength, function and appearance of your teeth while preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.

Using modern materials and digital technology, our restorations are carefully designed to blend seamlessly with your natural smile, providing a durable and long-lasting solution.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a custom-made restoration that completely covers a damaged tooth, restoring its strength, shape and appearance.

Crowns are commonly recommended when a tooth has been weakened by:

  • Large fillings
  • Tooth decay
  • Cracked or fractured teeth
  • Root canal treatment
  • Excessive tooth wear
  • Cosmetic concerns such as severely discoloured or misshapen teeth

Once bonded into place, the crown protects the remaining tooth while allowing you to eat, smile and speak with confidence.

What Is an Onlay?

An onlay is a conservative alternative to a crown.

Rather than covering the entire tooth, an onlay restores only the damaged portion, helping preserve more of your healthy natural tooth.

Onlays are often recommended when:

  • A filling is too large to replace safely
  • The tooth is cracked but still structurally sound
  • More strength is required than a filling can provide
  • The tooth does not require a full crown

Because less healthy tooth structure is removed, onlays are considered one of the most conservative long-term restorative options.

When Might You Need a Crown or Onlay?

Your dentist may recommend treatment if you have:

  • A cracked or broken tooth
  • A heavily filled tooth
  • Tooth wear from grinding or acid erosion
  • A tooth following root canal treatment
  • A fractured cusp
  • Large areas of decay
  • A weakened tooth at risk of breaking

Following a full examination, your dentist will advise whether a crown, onlay or another treatment is the most appropriate option.

FAQs

How long do crowns and onlays last?

With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, ceramic crowns and onlays commonly last 10–15 years or longer.

Is a crown better than a filling?

Not always. If enough healthy tooth remains, a filling may be suitable. However, when a tooth is significantly weakened, a crown provides greater protection and longevity.

How do I care for my crown or onlay?

Brush twice daily, clean between your teeth with floss or interdental brushes, attend regular dental check-ups, and avoid using your teeth to bite hard objects such as ice or packaging.

Are crowns painful?

Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic, making the procedure comfortable. Mild sensitivity afterwards is normal and usually settles within a few days.
